The car is very nice- inside an out. And very zoom, zoom. It even says "HELLO" to you on the radio display when you turn it on. Seriously, it's one voice-recognition chip away from answering to "Kit". (Ooh, that's an idea for a name...)
And it was very "16 Candles" of you to call me out to the balcony such that I might find you leaning against it in the parking lot. (The Buick was more "Say Anything").
Marc - I took a passing glance at the Civic hybrid and researched the Pontiac G6. The hybrid needs a few years to marinate before I buy one, and the G6 got terrible reviews. The Mazda3 is about what I was looking for at the price I wanted and got excellent reviews. So that kinda locked it up.
Courtney - It's KITT, actually. But I don't think I can appropriate that. The name will come, with time. And adventure.
16 Candles? Say Anything? I don't speak your crazy moon cultural language!
I was set to make an amused comment about your preference for four door cars, and then you went and reminded me of your lack of love for Molly Ringwald and john Cusack (and, in the greater sphere of things, John Hughes and Cameron Crowe). Now all I can do is shake my head in rueful bewilderment and wonder aloud how it is that we're friends.
Is a sport manual shift a little "shifter" in the center console that you can force the car to shift gears provided the new gear doesn't force you to redline?
Yes, the manual shifter is digital, unlike the 3 hard gear settings on the old Buick. It gives you access to a range of gears depending on speed and RPM. I don't think it will let you drop down to 1st at 60mph, but it will let you downshift early for engine braking during a turn. I wouldn't trust it for normal driving, but for practice, hills, or special situations it has its uses.
Marc, what could I possibly say about you that could match the experience of meeting you in person?

Ah, there are a lot of memories in that old car...
Forget them.
Nice new wheels!
Zoom Zoom Zoom!
I like.
Why the Mazda? What were the other cars that you looked at? I'm toying with the idea of replacing my current, stylin' 99 Ford Contour.

At least my 80's teen-angst movie references weren't lost on Jason.
Told you you and Jason would get along. (She's knows the secret of Maylar!) Anyway, our disagreements on 80s film are well documented.
As for the car, it drives more like a coupe than the last one. And it has a sport manual shift. You have to give me time to evolve, man.

...if by "disagreements" you mean your blasphemy...
I know I'm late on this...
So you wanted the thrill of engine braking, but you didn't want a real manual transmission for rush hour traffic jams. Works for me.
And you're right. I really am more of an experience.
