Awesome Word of the Day

Hydrofracking

According to the New York Times, hydrofracking is shorthand for a technology called hydraulic fracturing, which involves blasting water mixed with chemicals into rock at high pressure to extract natural gas. The NY DEC has decided not to permit the drilling practice in two Catskills watersheds.

We acknowledge that there’s a separate subset of issues that are independent of the safety of hydrofracking.
- Stuart Gruskin, executive deputy commissioner for the environmental conservation department

Hydrofracking is an awesome word, and a term that I think perfectly encapsulates the intersection of resource exploration and watershed management.
