Bad Dog

No no no no no no no no no no no no.

They cancelled Teen Titans to bring us this?

My problem is not so much with the concept as with the secondary characters. Watch the preview and see if you can figure out which one is stabbing me in the brain. Go ahead, I'll wait.

...

Done? Ok, here's the thing. I have no problem with a Kryptonian dog coming to Earth and befriending a human household sans Clark. I'll even grant the need for a sidekick cat somewhere in close enough proximity to provide comic relief.

But Ace? ACE the BATDOG?! Bruce Wayne felt the need to dress his ROTTWEILLER in a BATSUIT to hide his IDENTITY and look more INTIMIDATING? ARGH!

At the risk of sounding like I maybe know a little too much about comics history, there actually was a Batdog, and I'm pretty sure his name was Ace. If I'm remembering it right he came into existence shortly after Krypto did, though he didn't last as long. It was part of the same time in DC history that brought us Superboy and, soon thereafter, the Batmite. Of course, Robin came out of that general time period, too, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you feel about Robin.

None of which is to say that the character's mere existence is worth putting it in this show, but for a cartoon show that's going to air on weekday mornings after the start of school, well, I don't really have high standards to begin with.

Personally, I just want to know why they feel it necessary to cancel Teen Titans. I can only assume ratings are involved in that, somewhere, but I've yet to see a new episode of the show that I wasn't happy to watch. Of course, I could say the same about X-Men: Evolution, too, and that's long gone. The last episodes of Kim Possible will air next month...

-sigh- I'm going to miss my cartoons. And, strange as it is to say, anime just doesn't cut it. At least, not for satisfying the same bug that the afore-mentioned shows do...

I hadn't even heard that Teen Titans was cancelled. I just assumed that it was winding down, since it was only intended to run for 4 seasons anyway. The episode list calls the last episodes of this season "The End, parts 1-3," so I would have to think that this is indeed, the end.

I just hope that they air all the remaining episodes because they're FINALLY getting around to the comic's best storyline, "Raven Rising." I still have the originals from 1985 somewhere in my house. They're not protected, so they're probably close to completely disintegrated by now, but they're somewhere in here. The ending of the storyline was both unexpected and inevitable, which any writer will tell you is the best kind of ending. But it might be too brutal for the young'uns.

But then, hey, the young'uns'll be watching KRYPTO THE FRICKIN' SUPER DOG!
